Meet the Team: Adam

Adam - Nimvelo

Our next Meet the Team post features Adam, who is another one of our awesome developers here at Nimvelo. Adam works daily to make sure that everything is working perfectly behind the scenes for our customers.

Tell us a little about your role at Nimvelo

I am a front end web developer at Nimvelo. This means I create the website and web apps that our customers use every day. They are the primary method of interaction with our service, the first port of call when something isn’t working right, so they need to work flawlessly so that the users to know that we really care about our customers and our products (because we genuinely do!).

What does an average day look like for you?

I’m lucky enough to live close enough to the office to be able to walk to and from work every day. I get to my desk and spend a little time catching up with the latest tech and web development news. Then I knuckle down to the day’s tasks powered by a few cups of coffee. At Nimvelo we like to work hard and play hard, so there’s often a couple games of Exploding Kittens with the team before the day’s out.

What are you working on at the moment?

I’ve just finished crafting the latest version of Nimvelo Phone Analytics, a web app that shows you how your team is using Nimvelo Phone. Initially, the beta version of the app displayed a set of charts we thought would demonstrate the power of this analytical view of your call data. The number one request from everyone who used the beta version was “We want to make our own charts”, so that’s exactly what we started working on next!

How did you get into this role? Is there any advice you’d give to someone looking to get into web development?

I studied for a degree in Computer Science, which has been an incredibly useful (but expensive!) route into the field. If university isn’t for you, software engineering is a very accessible field these days, and talented individuals looking to switch fields can totally pick up skills in their spare time. The nature of software engineering means that the skills you acquire can be very empowering to you personally and in your career.

How do you come up with ideas for new products and tools?

Usually I try to tackle problems that I encounter, or things I want to see done differently. I think that being both the end user and the developer of a solution helps create something that is the best that it can be. We all use Nimvelo Phone ourselves, so we can easily identify areas that need improving.

What’s the best thing about working at Nimvelo?

With such a small team of talented people, I am trusted with the creative freedom to work on what I think can help us the most (within reason, of course). This means I generally care more about the work I do rather than my work being dictated to me and thus losing passion for it.
